The Kenya National Commission in Human Rights has expressed alarm over the rising number of government critics being abducted, with at least 82 people kidnapped since June.
The Independent Policing Oversight Authority urged the Inspector General of Police to take urgent measures to stop the troubling trend of abductions following recent disappearances of social media critics.
Witnesses reported that Peter Muteti was seized by men outside a shop, one of whom wore a police uniform, indicating potential law enforcement involvement in the abductions.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua attributed the disappearances to a secret government unit, stating that abducting and killing critics is not a solution.
