Law professor Ryan Goodman asserts that personnel changes made by President Trump, particularly involving Elon Musk's interference with federal agencies, amount to illegal activity. Musk's actions include shutting down the U.S. Agency for International Development, placing its staff on leave, and facilitating buyouts for federal employees. Goodman highlights the purging of officials in the Department of Justice and FBI as violations of civil service statutes. Despite the evident ramifications, these actions appear to be supported or overlooked by other administration members, raising serious legal concerns.
There are a couple of things that I think stand out to me as highly illegal. So, one is actually also something going on in the Justice Department when you said firing people.
The purging of the FBI career servants, public servants, and DOJ public servants is a violation of the civil servants statutes. I think they even know it.
