Transport Secretary Louis Haigh's resignation follows her guilty plea for a past offence regarding the misreporting of her stolen phone incident, deemed a distraction from government duties.
In her resignation letter, Haigh stated, "I am sorry to leave under these circumstances, but I take pride in what we have done. I will continue to fight every day for the people of Sheffield Heeley."
Haigh explained her situation, stating, "Some time later, I discovered that the handset in question was still in my house. I should have immediately informed my employer and not doing so straight away was a mistake."
A Conservative Party spokesman commented, "Louise Haigh has done the right thing in resigning. It is clear she has failed to behave to the standards expected of her position."
