A collision between a motorcycle and a car took place on Castlebar Road in Newport around 4.30pm on Sunday, resulting in the motorcyclist sustaining serious injuries. He was treated at the scene and taken to Mayo University Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. The road was preserved for investigation and has since reopened. A man in his 60s was arrested related to the incident, and gardaí are seeking witnesses and anyone with relevant camera footage to assist in the ongoing investigation.
