The Delhi Consumer Court has mandated Emami Limited to cease deceptive advertising and has fined them ₹15 lakh for claiming their 'Fair and Handsome' cream could achieve visible skin lightening within three weeks.
Court President Inder Jeet Singh stated, 'The misleading packaging and advertisements failed to deliver on the promised results, significantly affecting consumer trust and welfare, necessitating stringent action against such marketing practices.'
In addition to the fine, the court has ordered Emami to notify consumers about the false claims and provide compensation to the complainant for the misleading experience with the product.
This ruling underscores a growing demand for accountability in advertising, especially regarding personal care products and the societal implications of perpetuating unrealistic beauty standards.
