Lucy Letby, a British nurse convicted of murdering seven infants and attempting to kill seven others, is serving 15 life sentences. Her case is now under review as medical experts have argued that the evidence used to convict her may not support the charges. Led by Dr. Shoo Lee, an international panel of specialists found that natural causes or poor medical care might have contributed to the deaths. Letby's defense team claims a miscarriage of justice occurred, as she maintains her innocence and seeks to challenge the convictions through the Criminal Cases Review Commission.
The evidence that was used to convict her was wrong and for me that is a problem, he said, presenting the findings of an international panel of 14 independent experts in the care of young babies.
Letby is sitting in prison for the rest of her life for a crime that just never happened, her lawyer Mark McDonald said.
