In a shocking connection, two young computer scientists, Maximillian Snyder and Teresa Youngblut, allegedly inspired by the extremist group 'Zizians', were arrested for murders on opposite US coasts. Youngblut was implicated in the death of a Border Patrol agent in Vermont, while Snyder faced charges related to the stabbing death of an elderly landlord in Northern California. The Zizians, a fringe group derived from AI Rationalist thought, advocate for AI's dominance over humanity, which they believe justifies violent actions. This case raises serious implications about the intersection of technology, ideology, and violence.
These two seemingly disparate homicides are entwined not only because the people arrested for them had applied for a marriage license in Washington State ahead of time, but also, as Open Vallejo reports, because both youthful scientists seem to have ascribed to Zizianism, a radical - and allegedly violent - offshoot of Eliezer Yudkowsky's Rationalist movement.
Ziz and his compatriots believe that AI will ultimately bring about the destruction of humankind - and per their thinking, that's a desirable outcome.
