Mitty pushes WCAL girls basketball win streak to 101 with 21-0 run, blowing past Riordan at home
Briefly

Archbishop Mitty girls basketball celebrated their 100th consecutive win in West Catholic Athletic League action, showcasing their dominance with a convincing 71-50 victory over Archbishop Riordan on senior night. Despite Riordan's competitive first-half performance, Mitty's intensity and defensive adjustments in the third quarter led to a 21-0 run that propelled them to victory. Coach Sue Phillips emphasized the importance of heightened defensive pressure and tactical changes, while Riordan's coach acknowledged the challenges of adjusting to the heightened pressure from the Monarchs, ultimately highlighting Mitty's exceptional coaching and adaptability as key factors in their success.
"I didn't think we were playing with a level of intensity or ball pressure that we needed to to beat a team like Riordan," Phillips said. "So we picked up the defensive pressure and changed up our schemes a little bit and turned them over."
Riordan coach Will Watkins commented, "Coach (Sue) Phillips is a phenomenal coach. She made an adjustment, and we didn't adjust well enough to it. So that's pretty much the biggest thing."
