Chiltern Railways will replace its nearly 50-year-old Mark 3 carriages with 13 newer Mark 5A trains starting next spring. These updated trains will feature charging ports at every seat, enhanced wi-fi, digital customer information screens, and onboard air conditioning. The upgrade is aimed at improving customer journeys and supporting an increase in service frequency to meet rising demand by the end of 2026. Additionally, the new fleet will be fuelled by recycled vegetable oil to reduce emissions, aligning with sustainable practices.
