GardaĆ now use a roadside insurance database to check vehicles, enabling officers to identify uninsured drivers at the roadside. Thousands of uninsured drivers are being detected each month and their vehicles are being seized. Following the rollout of the new roadside insurance detection system, more than 16,000 uninsured vehicles were seized in the first ten months of last year.
