Kingston Council has finalized plans for a new leisure centre to replace the long-closed Kingfisher Leisure Centre, closed since 2019 due to exorbitant repair costs. The new facility will feature extensive amenities, including an eight-lane swimming pool, sports hall, gym, and health suite. Although previous designs faced delays and criticisms, council members expressed optimism over the improved design and practicality. The centre emphasizes sustainability with 72 cycle parking spaces and will incorporate green space with 56 new trees. Approval was unanimous, marking a significant development for local residents after five years of planning.
