U.S. passport holders can travel visa-free to 116 countries, but some destinations require a new travel authorization, such as the ETIAS for European travel.
As of May 2025, travelers to 30 European countries will need to apply for the ETIAS, which has a €7 fee and is valid for three years.
The UK ETA app must be used by U.S. citizens traveling to the UK, with applications costing £10 and valid for two years from January 8, 2025.
U.S. tourists need an NZeTA for New Zealand, processed within 72 hours for a NZD $17 fee, while Australia requires an ETA for entry.
