"We're thrilled not only to expand our retail footprint but also to solidify our presence in North Attleborough through the acquisition of this prominent shopping plaza," said Mark O'Connor, senior real estate manager, in the statement. "This location represents our ongoing commitment to providing value-driven shopping experiences for our customers across New England, and we look forward to bringing our unique brand of service and savings to the local community."
The acquisition marks the company's 53rd store in Massachusetts and its eight in Bristol County, according to the statement. Ocean State Job Lot is hiring up to 70 new employees to work at the new location. The company's expansion into this area emphasizes its focus on growth and community integration.
Following Christmas Tree Shops' filing for bankruptcy last year, the 51,074 square-foot store will take over the space where the shop resided "continuing OSJL's strategic repurposing of former retail sites." Ocean State Job Lot has converted six other Christmas Tree Shops properties across New England.
The company, which sells merchandise including apparel, pet supplies, and household goods at closeout prices, has 5,600 employees and annual sales exceeding $800 million. The opening of their new store not only bolsters their business operations but also aims to enhance customer shopping experience.
