Officials warn about ongoing FasTrak scam as new versions continuously pop up
Briefly

A warning has been issued for Bay Area drivers about a persistent scam involving FasTrak toll collection. Many residents have received text messages demanding immediate payment for overdue tolls, threatening vehicle registration suspension and legal issues. John Goodwin from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission affirmed that no legitimate toll operator would collect payments in this manner. The scams have evolved over the past year, and residents report being targeted frequently. There is concern that vulnerable individuals may be fooled, despite some residents being aware of the deception.
This is the second iteration of messages that we've received this calendar year that we've been made aware of.
Neither we with the Fastrak operation here in the Bay Area, nor any other legitimate toll operator is going to seek to collect payment from customers by sending a text message with a link to a website.
