On a Wednesday, hundreds gathered at the Massachusetts State House as part of the national 50501 Movement, a coordinated effort featuring protests in all 50 states. The demonstrators voiced opposition to Donald Trump’s administration and Elon Musk’s influence in government. Signs displayed messages about democracy, immigration, and LGBTQ rights, reflecting broader concerns about the political climate post-inauguration. Event organizer Natalie Núñez emphasized the need for activism, particularly in a traditionally Democratic state, to hold representatives accountable. Concerns were also raised regarding Musk's access to government data, likened by some to a coup.
With Massachusetts being a blue state and the Democrats being a little bit complacent, we just need people to make more moves, complain to state reps and senators more to pressure them - because if we pressure them, they'll do something.
Democrats have raised concerns about Musk's access to multiple government agencies, which one historian called a "coup."
The protest was one of many across the country, joining the national 50501 Movement, which promoted 50 protests in 50 states in one day.
Protesters also had signs that said "Immigrants make America great," and "do not be nice to ICE."
