Phil Lesh, Grateful Dead co-founder and bass player, dead at 84
Briefly

Phil Lesh, bassist and founding member of the Grateful Dead, passed peacefully this morning. He was surrounded by his family and full of love.
Lesh was instrumental in creating The Grateful Dead sound, collaborating with lead guitarist Jerry Garcia first when Garcia was part of another band, the Warlocks.
In his 2005 memoir, Lesh said he was led to that fortuitous encounter with Garcia 'as if by an unseen hand,' highlighting the deep connection they had.
Lesh continued to keep the band alive, frequently performing with former band members, under the moniker Phil Lesh and Friends.
