Police in India stop Ed Sheeran's impromptu street concert
Briefly

During a visit to Bengaluru for his concert, Ed Sheeran's street performance was abruptly stopped by local police due to a lack of event authorization. Sheeran, who was performing his hit single 'Shape of You,' was approached by an officer who unplugged his microphone, leading to public discontent. The police claimed the area was too crowded, though Sheeran later clarified on Instagram that he had obtained permission. This incident occurred just before he performed later that night at a scheduled concert, further highlighting the confusion around the interactions.
Local channels showed a policeman walking up to Sheeran as he was singing the hit single Shape of You and unplugging the microphone.
Police said event organisers had been refused permission for the street performance, which was on one of the city's busiest streets.
Bengaluru police official Shekar T Tekkannanavar was quoted as saying by news agency ANI, 'I refused to give permission because Church Street gets very crowded.'
Sheeran clarified on Instagram that he had permission to perform, stating, 'We had permission to busk, by the way.'
