Valley Christian's boys basketball team is transforming under coach Colin Pfaff, breaking free from a historical legacy of losing. After several winless seasons, they have achieved a commendable 17-5 record, placing third in the West Catholic Athletic League with an 8-4 score. The team's success comes from a gradual build over three years and includes significant victories against traditional rivals. The current roster benefits from increased confidence and improved talent, including standout players Brayden Harris and Teniola Bamisebi, leading to a dramatic shift in their winning mentality.
The talent on the floor has also improved. Senior Bellarmine transfer Brayden Harris has provided a scoring punch as the leading bucket-getter, and 6-foot-9 sophomore Teniola Bamisebi is an 'an elite rim protector and defender,' Pfaff said.
A lot of these kids now, they weren't here for that. So that's been huge from a confidence standpoint, going in knowing you have a real shot to win any game.
Valley has been kind of the doormat of the WCAL for the last 20 years, right? They're no longer in that position.
This season, Valley swept Serra in the regular season for the first time in the MaxPreps era (since 2004). The Warriors beat Mitty for the first time since 2006, snapping a streak of 45 consecutive losses.
