Primary school to get refurbished swimming pool with roof as plans approved
Briefly

Ardleigh Green Junior School has obtained approval for a refurbishment of its swimming pool, which has been closed since the Covid pandemic. The planned renovations, driven by the school's commitment to swimming education, will include a new roof, heating system, and renovated changing rooms. The application was approved by Havering Council with specific usage conditions, including operational hours limited to weekdays. This effort is backed by the Empower Learning Academy Trust, highlighting the importance of swimming competency for students, as advocated by former headteacher John Morris OBE.
The pool has been located at the school since the 1950s, but it was closed during the Covid pandemic and has since remained out of use.
Mr Frater attributed part of the drive behind the plans to ex-headteacher, John Morris OBE, who was keen on ensuring that all kids could swim.
