"Mr Martin said he has not spoken to Mr Gavin since Sunday evening but he does plan to speak to him again soon. I spoke to him Sunday evening, I haven't spoken to him since, he is taking a few days out, Mr Martin told the show. I'm feeling very sorry for him. It has been very traumatic for him. It was very traumatic for him on Sunday evening. This is a man who has achieved a lot, he added."
"It immediately went to the candidate and he immediately said no there wasn't. Any due diligence is only as good as the information received. But [the campaign] was intensive. The level of scrutiny today is far more intensive than it would have been in previous eras. There were invented stories on social media as well which were horrible, and untrue."
Micheál Martin has not spoken to Jim Gavin since Sunday evening but plans to speak to him again soon. Jim Gavin is taking a few days out. Martin described the situation as traumatic for Gavin and said he feels very sorry for him. Martin stated that Gavin did not disclose any previous issues with tenants when queried and that any due diligence depends on the information provided. Martin said the campaign was intensive and that the current level of scrutiny is far greater than in previous eras. Martin acknowledged invented, horrible, and untrue stories circulated on social media and said he had strongly recommended Gavin as the party candidate.
