Reminders of Jan. 6 attack fade in the Capitol as President-elect Donald Trump retakes power

"It's been erased," said Sen. Peter Welch, D-Vt. "Winners write history and Trump won. And his version is that it was a peaceful gathering. Obviously completely untrue."

Some of the 1,250 defendants convicted after Jan. 6 called for the deaths of Nancy Pelosi and Mike Pence. They carried weapons, zip ties, and Confederate flags.

Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski described Jan. 6 as "a very, very dark time." Some lawmakers want to really put that behind us.

If Trump pardons rioters, as he has said he will do, that would be 'putting an exclamation point on his version of what happened,' said Sen. Welch.
