San Jose State football and Fresno State have solidified the continuation of their longstanding rivalry by announcing a series of non-conference games through the 2034 season. Despite Fresno State's move to the Pac-12 in 2026, both athletic directors emphasized the historical significance of the rivalry, which dates back to 1921, making it a priority to maintain these competitive matchups. The first game in the renewed series is set for September 19, 2026, and will be hosted at CEFCU Stadium in San Jose, with excitement expressed by both players and coaches regarding these crucial games.
Certainly during rivalry week in Fresno everything is more amped up. Just a little bit more on the line, it's the longest-running rivalry that we have.
Last year was my first time in it. Going up there, you can see the rivalry there, the fans are animated. Our guys are excited about it.
The rivalry dates back to 1921 and it was important to us, especially where college athletics is heading, to keep these traditional rivals.
When you do have a game that has a little of a bullseye on it, there is a traveling trophy, it does create a little bit of excitement.
