Warren Upton, the last survivor of the USS Utah and oldest survivor of the Pearl Harbor attack, died at 105, marking the loss of a significant historical witness.
Upton shared in 2020 that during the attack, he initially felt the ship shake and did not understand what was happening until subsequent torpedoes hit.
He expressed sorrow over losing shipmates over the years, lamenting that in 2020, only three crew members of the USS Utah were alive, including him.
Historian J. Michael Wenger noted that on the day of the Pearl Harbor attack, there were 87,000 military personnel, but only 15 survivors remain after Upton's death.
