San Jose officials have reduced the candidates for the District 3 city council seat to five individuals after the former councilmember's resignation due to serious allegations. The interviews for the appointment will occur on January 28, where each candidate will be asked identical questions in a bid to secure a temporary position until a special election in April. Notable candidates include Bob Staedler, who emphasizes collaboration to revitalize downtown post-COVID-19, and Jahmal Williams, an influential figure in racial justice advocacy within the community.
I don't like to measure myself versus other people, but I think we all are champions of downtown in our own ways. Downtown has evolved, and I think we all need to admit things aren't the way they were pre COVID-19, so we need to work together to make downtown the best it can be.
Williams' influence as a Black leader in Silicon Valley stems from a commitment to advocacy and racial justice, with a decade of experience in the community.
