Wilfredo Pagan, a 77-year-old man from Long Island, faces a distressing situation where the Social Security Administration erroneously lists him as dead and suspects him of fraud. He has been battling this issue for years, desperately needing funds to pay for medical bills. Despite providing his birth certificate and other necessary documents, he continues to receive death notices. His goddaughter, Deana Bain, expresses concern for Pagan's well-being and the lack of response from the agency regarding his situation.
"I am suffering because every day I say, 'Why do I deserve what happens to me?'" said Wilfredo Pagan, 77, of Freeport to NBC 4.
"It's a nightmare," said Pagan, who runs a modest religious figurine and candle store in Far Rockaway. "I think they want to kill me."
"They say, we'll do an investigation, and we'll call you. And - nothing," said Pagan's goddaughter, Deana Bain.
"I'm entitled to that money," he said. "They don't want to give it to me."
