ESPN has committed to broadcasting ACC sports until 2036, enhancing the conference's stability. This agreement comes as the ACC aims to resolve ongoing lawsuits from Clemson and Florida State regarding financial disparities with other conferences. ESPN's decision follows negotiations for new 'value adds' meant to increase marquee matchups in sports, particularly football and basketball. Additionally, leveraging relationships with teams like Notre Dame may create more competitive games, ultimately addressing financial concerns and strengthening the overall profile of the ACC.
In a critical step toward securing stability for the conference, ESPN has agreed to pick up its option to continue broadcasting ACC sports through 2036.
These include creating more marquee matchups in football and men's basketball to maximize content on the networks.
Earlier this month, Notre Dame athletic director Pete Bevacqua said he was open to playing more games against Clemson in the future.
Negotiations surrounding the option ran in conjunction with discussions between the ACC and Clemson and Florida State on a new revenue distribution model aimed at alleviating the schools' biggest concerns.
