South Korea arrests ex-defense minister over martial law DW 12/08/2024
Briefly

The South Korean police arrested former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun for his alleged role in a controversial martial law decree proposed by President Yoon Suk Yeol.
Yoon Suk Yeol, after declaring martial law, reversed his decision just hours later and narrowly escaped an impeachment vote in the National Assembly.
The ruling People Power Party boycotted the impeachment vote, alleging that this was necessary to prevent "severe division and chaos" in the country.
Despite the impeachment vote's failure, the opposition parties in South Korea have pledged to continue their efforts to remove Yoon from office.
