Shannon Beecher from Streatham has been banned from keeping animals for a decade after neglecting her Italian mastiff, Kane, who was found severely underweight with a body condition score of one out of nine. The court sentenced her to eight weeks in custody, suspended for 12 months. The dog's condition, which showed signs of malnutrition, was discovered by a neighbor and later assessed by RSPCA Inspector Harriet Dailday and a vet. The neglect led to Kane suffering from malnutrition for weeks, along with a flea infestation.
Kane was bright and alert but he was incredibly thin with all his ribs, hips, and spine easily visible. He was so underweight that his head looked irregularly large for his body.
The owner failed to recognise signs of emaciation and seek veterinary advice within a reasonable time frame.
Beecher pleaded guilty to violating the Animal Welfare Act 2006 by neglecting her dog's needs, resulting in a severe case of malnutrition.
Shannon Beecher has been banned from keeping animals for 10 years following severe neglect of her Italian mastiff, who was found grossly underweight.
