The Town of Hanson has taken legal action against a resident projecting a political message on its water tower, asserting that it violates local sign regulations.
Town Administrator Lisa Green emphasized the balance of respecting free speech while maintaining municipal policies, stating that political messages are not permitted on municipal property.
The ACLU noted that municipalities can restrict signs on public property as long as the regulations do not favor or discriminate against specific content.
To combat the ongoing projection, Hanson is using additional borrowed spotlights and plans to impose fines on the resident until the image is removed.
