Israeli spyware company Paragon Solutions confirmed to TechCrunch its sales to the U.S. government and allied countries. Executive chairman John Fleming emphasized that clients must agree to terms forbidding the targeting of journalists and civil society activists. This declaration follows allegations from WhatsApp that Paragon's technology was used to hack 90 journalists, including Francesco Cancellato and civilian activist Husam El Gomati. Despite inquiries regarding specific user definitions and abuse investigations, Paragon did not provide responses, raising concerns about its commitment to enforcing its own policies.
Paragon licenses its technology to a select group of global democracies - principally, the United States and its allies.
We have a zero-tolerance policy against such targeting and will terminate our relationship with any customer that violates our terms of service.
