Startup plugs AI datacenters into biogas-powered energy
Briefly

Chainergy, a UK-based datacenter startup, is addressing the lengthy power grid connection times for datacenters by developing modular facilities that operate near renewable energy sources. Founded in 2022, the startup’s approach involves utilizing shipping container-like enclosures for AI datacenter infrastructure, which can directly draw power from adjacent biogas generators, significantly reducing costs. This strategy emerged as a solution to a common challenge faced by developers in the UK, where energy supply shortages and long connection timelines have stalled many projects.
We've largely come from the energy sector, and we recognized the impacts of the lagging infrastructure and that the energy grid connecting projects was taking a very long time.
We developed various renewable energy projects in the past, and actually seeing connection dates get further and further away was becoming a problem.
