TDs blast 'unacceptable' remark from ESB chief that cost of Storm Eowyn likely to be paid by customers
Briefly

The article discusses criticism aimed at ESB chief executive Paddy Hayes regarding remarks made about potential cost increases for consumers following Storm Éowyn. Minister of State Jerry Buttimer deemed Hayes' comments 'inappropriate', while Labour leader Ivana Bacik labeled them 'completely unacceptable.' Bacik raised concerns over the possibility of ESB passing repair costs to customers, urging state intervention. Both leaders emphasized the need for investment in infrastructure to enhance resilience against such events, with Bacik insisting that the government's plans are insufficient and advocating for more immediate action.
Just in regard to Chief Executive of the ESB, I think his remarks were inappropriate at the time when people were looking for leadership from him, as the EO of ESB and I think that he should reflect on what he did say.
We want to ensure that the ESB does not pass on the costs of repairs to consumers. I think the State must step up on this.
