Metropolitan Police arrested two 17-year-old boys in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, on suspicion of computer misuse and blackmail offences relating to a ransomware attack on a London childcare chain. The attack in September resulted in the theft of personal data for about 8,000 children and contact details for carers and parents, and saw photos of toddlers published to extort the firm. Specialist investigators worked rapidly to identify suspects and emphasized ongoing coordination with partners to bring those responsible to justice. Law enforcement action in the UK has increased in response to a rise in high-profile cyber incidents.
