Thames Water admits delays to environmental works
Briefly

Thames Water is facing an investigation by Ofwat after revealing it will not finish over 100 environmental projects funded by customer fees. Despite a commitment to 812 schemes by 2025, Thames admitted that rising costs hindered delivery. Ofwat's enforcement director emphasized the serious implications of any regulatory breach and the need for accountability. The company, laden with £16 billion in debt and in need of £3.3 billion for continued operation, is cooperating with the investigation and assures customers will not bear double costs for their investments.
Customers have paid for Thames Water to carry out these essential environmental schemes. We take any indication that water companies are not meeting their legal obligations very seriously.
We will use our full range of powers to hold Thames to account for any failures and will require them to put things right.
