Woolwich, southeast London, is undergoing significant regeneration driven by infrastructure improvements like the new Elizabeth line station, facilitating quick access to the City. This transformation is evident in the rise of housing developments, including the conversion of Riverside House into a 14-storey tower with 332 student rooms and an adjacent Holiday Inn. While regeneration brings growth, concerns about the lack of supporting infrastructure, such as healthcare facilities, have been raised by local residents, highlighting the need for balanced development to accommodate this influx of students.
But it does seem like there's lots of developments and not enough infrastructure like GPs and hospitals being built. It puts a lot of pressure on the communities that are already here.
With a newly built Elizabeth line station offering 20 minute journeys into the City, Woolwich has quickly become a development hotspot.
Currently used as artist studios, its shabby, grey facade offers a glimpse into an era before the developers moved in.
Approved earlier this month, the 14-storey tower will be converted into 332 student rooms, with the adjacent low-rise block becoming a Holiday Inn hotel.
