Governor Kathy Hochul recently unveiled a significant $150 million investment aimed at establishing a new terminal that will connect Long Island MacArthur Airport with the Long Island Rail Road's Ronkonkoma station. This project includes infrastructure upgrades such as a pedestrian walkway, enhanced road networks, and the acquisition of 48 additional acres of land, all focused on improving passenger experience and reducing travel times. With earlier funding of $40 million already dedicated to a new terminal, this initiative is part of evolving transportation solutions for the region.
Moving MacArthur's terminal closer to Ronkonkoma station will encourage people to take the train to the airport. The LIRR is already the best travel experience to JFK.
The redesigned airport will feature a pedestrian walkway linking it to the LIRR station, revamped road networks, and various infrastructure upgrades in the hopes of improving passenger experience.
The announcement follows the governor's previous commitment of $40 million for a new north terminal adjacent to the train station, although specific timelines are not yet public.
Transportation hub was activated in 1943, becoming a commercial airport in 1960, primarily serving Nassau and Suffolk counties' residents as an alternative to JFK and LaGuardia.
