Following the devastating 2017 fire, Enchanted Hills Camp, long a haven for the blind and visually impaired, underwent a significant redesign prioritizing accessibility. Collaborating with the nonprofit Lighthouse for the Blind, architects from Perkins & Will incorporated feedback from blind community members into the design. The camp now features tactile pathways, sound-sensitive rooms, and other sensory cues, ensuring an inclusive environment that caters expressly to its visually impaired visitors, reflecting their needs and experiences in every aspect of its architecture.
The modern wilderness retreat at Enchanted Hills Camp integrates tactile and auditory clues, ensuring a welcoming experience tailored for its blind and visually-impaired visitors.
Through extensive consultation with the blind community, the redesign emphasized accessibility, featuring cane-detectable paths and sound-mitigating rooms.
