Charnwood Boxing Academy (CBA) in Thornton Heath, led by founder Patrick Boothe, faces eviction from its building acquired without council permission. Boothe has initiated an online petition to save the gym, which he describes as a lifeline for local youth, helping many leave gang involvement. The council, citing funding issues, plans to sell the building, despite Boothe's assertions of a prior promise. With 30 members and rising, the CBA fosters a supportive environment, crucial for the development of its members, particularly during the competitive boxing season.
I've had people leave their gangs to join this club, I've kids who get dropped off by their social workers. More people are joining everyday... It's absolutely amazing what's happening here.
The closure would destroy a safe space away from local gang culture that has become to feel like a family.
