Aidan Bergin, a 29-year-old man from Dungarvan, was fatally injured after a 600m fall at Bansko ski resort on January 28. He was photographing with friends when he lost balance and fell into a gully. Emergency services struggled with helicopter issues that delayed rescue for an hour. Despite medical efforts, he died the next day from severe injuries. Aidan is survived by family and friends, with many tributes shared online as they mourn his sudden passing. The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance in this case.
Life-saving measures were taken, and a full assessment of his injuries was carried out. But despite all efforts of our medical team, he eventually succumbed to his grave injuries.
Aidan, taken so suddenly from us, will live in our hearts forever.
The Department is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance. As with all consular cases, the Department does not comment on the details of individual cases.
Dozens of people have paid tribute to the Waterford man online over the past few days.
