A Manhattan Federal Court judge has extended a temporary restraining order that prohibits staff from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing US Treasury data, which has raised privacy concerns among several states. Judge Jeannette A. Vargas announced that she would soon make a decision regarding a longer-term injunction. During the hearing, it was revealed that there were uncertainties about what DOGE might have shared externally, despite asserted mitigation efforts to address privacy risks.
"During this time that the DOGE team members had access to this information, there were extensive mitigation efforts in place to prevent this precise harm."
"We candidly admit that there was some measure of increased risk but we took all appropriate mitigation measures to mitigate that risk as much as possible."
