Weather tracker: Cold drop' to cause heavy rain in Spain
Briefly

Spain is preparing for an extraordinary weather event with severe rainfall on its eastern coast due to a phenomenon called gota fria, which leads to significant atmospheric instability.
A gota fria, or cold drop, can lead to localized torrential rain, hail, and thunderstorms, making it difficult to predict exact areas affected, despite the forecasted severe rainfall levels.
In the US, unusual night-time temperatures are expected to exceed 20C, with major cities experiencing unseasonably warm weather due to a southerly airflow from the Gulf of Mexico.
Tropical Storm Kong-rey is expected to strengthen and affect northern Taiwan, with predictions of over 300mm of rain, which poses a substantial risk of severe flooding.
