The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) faces ongoing challenges with mold remediation, despite federal court mandates. A resident, Kadisha Davis, detailed her ongoing ordeal with mold in her unit at the Ingersoll Houses in Brooklyn, where leaks and mold persist despite submitting a work order over a year ago. Inspections failed to provide a solution, and the persistent issue underlines NYCHA's broader struggle with aging infrastructure and the resolution of numerous open work orders related to mold, affecting nearly 77,000 units according to recent reports.
Despite being under court order to remediate it, mold remains a persistent problem for NYCHA, which points to its aging infrastructure and a climbing number of physical needs across its portfolio.
It's hard to keep up, to be honest, said Davis. After a year, the mold remains despite multiple inspections and a recommendation for window ventilation.
