Toto Wolff has remained in contact with Christian Horner by text since Horner's July sacking and said he misses having Horner in the paddock as a 'great enemy.' Wolff described Horner as one of the most successful figures in Formula 1 and said Horner was respected in Milton Keynes despite frequent differences in opinion. Wolff called Horner a wonderful enemy, said the paddock feels strange without him, and said Laurent Mekies brings pragmatism that allows conversation about the long term. Wolff added that the sport needs strong characters and villains to stay compelling.
"It's a bit ambivalent because, A: his track record is very good -- one of the most successful in Formula 1. So, clearly there are things he's done well within the team. I think he was to a certain degree respected in Milton Keynes. But then we didn't often have the same opinion or perspective. So, he's been a wonderful, great enemy over the years."
