In December, a woman added Jay-Z to a lawsuit against Sean Combs alleging an attack in 2000. Following this, she voluntarily dismissed her claim without explanation. Jay-Z termed the dismissal a "victory" and denounced the allegations as baseless. Combs, currently jailed for federal sex trafficking charges and facing numerous related lawsuits, had his legal team assert that this dismissal supports their contention that other accusations are unfounded. The cases brought against Combs are pursued by attorney Tony Buzbee, who represents over 150 alleged victims of sexual misconduct.
Jay-Z, who vehemently denied the claims and tried to get extracted from the lawsuit, called the woman's decision to withdraw her claim "a victory" and said the "fictional tale" she and her lawyers created was "laughable."
Lawyers for Combs said the dismissal of the lawsuit without a settlement confirmed that other lawsuits he is facing are built on falsehoods.
"For months, we have seen case after case filed by individuals hiding behind anonymity, pushed forward by an attorney more focused on media headlines than legal merit."
Combs remains jailed in New York awaiting a criminal trial on federal sex trafficking charges.
