Women's experiences in prison are particularly harsh. Although they constitute only 7.8% of the prison population, they face uniquely challenging circumstances that exacerbate their situation.
Inmates are required to adhere to military-style rituals, reflecting the government's oppressive influence, which compels them to espouse loyalty to Chavez’s legacy despite their suffering.
