Years of advocacy have resulted in parking-protected bike lanes on parts of Valencia Street, but a crucial four-block section remains with only conventional lanes. Luke Bornheimer, an advocate from Streets Forward, is leading a campaign to complete the bike lane protection, emphasizing that doing so would enhance safety, reduce traffic and pollution, and benefit local businesses. The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) has an approved design for this section from 2020, ready for quick implementation to ensure cyclists' safety and overall community well-being.
It's time for Valencia Street to have curbside protected bikeways for the entire length of the street. Curbside protected bikeways will make Valencia safer for all people.
