A two-year-old child was fatally struck by a vehicle Friday evening at the intersection of 4th and Channel Streets in Mission Rock. Walk San Francisco organized a vigil for Monday at 5 p.m. at the location. SFMTA crews repainted crosswalks and markings Monday morning. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police; alcohol and drugs were not factors. SFMTA initiated a rapid response review to analyze circumstances and identify engineering improvements. The intersection is located less than 0.2 miles from where a four-year-old was killed in 2023. 4th Street is designated as a dangerous street on the city's high-injury network, where 12% of streets account for 68% of traffic crashes. Nine other collisions occurred at this intersection since 2016.
