David Martinez, a 32-year-old man from San Jose, was arrested for multiple assault charges following four random attacks on citizens since late February. On April 12, he assaulted a family member and brandished a machete before barricading himself. Police had been searching for him due to prior assault warrants. The assaults included attacking elderly men at a gym and a supermarket, resulting in serious injuries. Martinez was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for multiple counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
