Diyar Nurgozhay reveals some fans deserted him after early UFC losses
"I don't know what I'm proud of, but what I can say is that there were a lot of people that were with me through all of this. Because a lot of the people, a lot of the fans from Kazakhstan, my own country, kind of put a cross on me, washed their hands off me and said, 'This is it, he's done, he's washed up, he can't do anything in the UFC.' But there were people that believed in me, such as, my mom, my wife, my sister, they were always with me."
"So, you see that the true people will be with you no matter what, through thick and through thin. We figured out a way to move forward."
Diyar Nurgozhay, a Kazakh fighter, secured his first UFC win at UFC 326 in Las Vegas, defeating Rafael Tobias by unanimous decision in a light heavyweight matchup despite being a significant underdog. Nurgozhay entered the UFC as an undefeated prospect with eight finishes in ten wins but suffered two consecutive submission losses in his first two UFC fights. These losses led many Kazakhstani fans to dismiss him as finished in the promotion. However, Nurgozhay remained resilient and grateful for the unwavering support of his mother, wife, and sister throughout this difficult period, emphasizing that true people stand by you regardless of circumstances.
