Vintage Volk! Alexander Volkanovski Tops Diego Lopes Again in UFC 325 Main Event
"Champ Volkanovski was changing stances often, keeping Lopes guessing. He shot in on a takedown, but Lopes easily pushed that off. The pair traded leg kicks, and Volkanovski went to the body. A lot of what was being thrown in the first several minutes, however, was missing. A few short exchanges saw both fighters land, but neither did much damage."
"Evenly matched on the feet early on at least, Alexander Volkanovski opted to pursue a takedown again. Lopes was able to stay upright, back to the fence. The champ mixed in a few punches up top, and another off the break. Lopes would land a right hand in the final minute, but Volkanovski came right back with a solid shot of his own."
Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes rematched in the UFC 325 main event, with Volkanovski defending the featherweight title he had reclaimed last year. Volkanovski had not fought since the previous encounter while Lopes returned after finishing Jean Silva to earn another shot. Both fighters showed respect in the build-up and started cautiously, touching gloves and trading light strikes. Volkanovski frequently changed stances, tested takedowns, and used leg and body kicks. Lopes stayed upright on takedown attempts, landed effective body shots and a late right hand. Early exchanges landed but caused little decisive damage, keeping the contest close.
